Explenation Cemetery

Lommel is at present the biggest German War Cemeteries of the Second World War. More than 39.000 dead soldiers (542 of the First World War) have found their last resting-place here. During the fights in Belgium and in West-Germany – near Aachen, in the Hürtgenwald and at the Brückenkopf near Remagen – the American Cemetery-Service also took care of the funeral of German soldiers. At first, the fallen were buried near provisional American cemeteries and than 1946/47 brought to Lommel.
